‘Built by Nature’ Sustainability Highlight

A program highlight at TOC 2023 will be Amanda Sturgeon from ‘Built by Nature’, a network and grant-making fund dedicated to accelerating the timber building transformation in Europe.

Built by Nature connects industry and city frontrunners, enables them to research, demonstrate and scale their innovation power, and amplifies inspiring stories of ground-breaking timber projects and solutions.

Going beyond sustainability, a Regenerative Design approach offers a process that results in positive outcomes for both society and nature.

It is based on the principles of whole systems thinking, place-based design and creating the potential for continual evolution.

Amanda commented “As author and leader of global regenerative frameworks, I bring innovative solutions to projects of any scale to create buildings, infrastructure and cities that contribute to the reversal of climate change and biodiversity loss”.

As a dynamic and brilliant advocate for changing the way we design and build our shelters and cities… her passion is contagious and her ability to think across systems and see the connections between typical silos is uniquely profound.

Amanda is an architect and champion of sustainable architecture through practices like regenerative design and biophilic design. Previously CEO of the International Living Future Institute, she joined Mott MacDonald as the Regenerative Design Lead for the Asia Pacific Region in 2020.

Built by  Nature offers grants of between €50,000-€250,000 to build the teams and solutions to accelerate the timber building transformation. These could be initiatives that tackle technical, regulatory or financial barriers or new approaches that increase the climate impact of timber. Her presentation at TOC2023 will discuss what projects have been recently funded and also talk about future opportunities in Australia.
